The Riverfront Heritage of Namakkal
Mohanur is a historic town and administrative taluk located in the southern part of Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu. Positioned along the northern banks of the sacred Kaveri (Cauvery) River, Mohanur serves as a natural border connecting Namakkal District with Karur District immediately across the river.
Geographically, Mohanur is situated at approximately 11.05° N latitude and 78.14° E longitude. The town rests on a fertile alluvial plain enriched over centuries by the seasonal flows of the Kaveri River. A unique spiritual and geographical hallmark of Mohanur is that the river here flows from North to South—a phenomenon celebrated in Hindu tradition as Dakshinavahini, which is revered for conferring spiritual sanctity upon holy dips and religious ceremonies.
